Our K9 Training and Conservation Programme is dedicated to developing highly skilled working dogs that play a vital role in anti-poaching operations, wildlife conservation, and personal protection. Carefully bred and professionally trained on the premises of On-Track Adventure, these exceptional dogs are prepared to assist conservation teams in protecting endangered wildlife while also serving as loyal and dependable protectors for their handlers.
The programme combines advanced obedience, tracking, scent detection, patrol work, and protection training, ensuring each dog is equipped to perform effectively in challenging environments — whether supporting anti-poaching units by tracking suspects and detecting illegal wildlife products, or providing security and companionship to their owners.
Beyond producing capable working dogs, the programme forms an important part of our youth development initiative. Young people visiting or participating in the camp gain valuable insight into responsible dog handling, wildlife conservation, personal safety, discipline, and teamwork — developing a deeper appreciation for the role working dogs play in protecting South Africa's natural heritage and promoting community safety.
Day visits can be booked at the Don-Don River Mill Lodge while visiting On-Track Adventure. The historic Don-Don River Mill is a restored sandstone mill dating back to 1865, situated on the banks of the Caledon River, which forms the border between South Africa and Lesotho near Hobhouse.
The mill still houses its original, fully functioning Swedish milling equipment. During these educational visits, guests can gain more knowledge on how this historic mill operated throughout the centuries — a memorable addition to any school camp, leadership programme, or group visit.
